Unregulated communications industry

Dear Ministers:

No one is more aware of the uncontrolled exploitation of internet, phone, TV and other devices than you people because nothing makes Canadians more angry than being ripped off by the uncontested trio of companies providing these services. And we are all looking for ways to get rid of them and their monthly bills.

It's a great mystery to me how, in this country, these companies are unregulated knowing how opportunistic they are and what Canadians are forced to pay them. How can a responsible government allow it to happen? This is not a fascist country where corporations rule any way it takes to continually increase profits. You might have noticed that the people of the world are rising up against governments that rule but don't provide good governance and runaway big business is an opening to this.

I have a small example of this exploitation. (Everyone I know has one or more big ones). I have a 'direct pay' mobile phone for emergencies only. There is always a small amount of money there yet Telus orders me to 'top it up' monthly or they will take whatever money is there and close my service. So the unused money accumulates. One man told me he has $150. invested here that he will never recover. Is there anything in place to prevent these people from coming into your home and taking the food out of your fridge?

Please do your duty. Take the responsibility for controlling these companies. Clearly, deregulation policy doesn't apply here as clearly such an industry cannot be permitted to have its own way to obscene profits on the backs of the least able to pay for, what is now, essential services.

Thank you for your attention to--what is to me--and urgent matter and I look forward to hearing that you have taken steps to control and balance this situation that has become way out of focus. Do this for your constituents.

Wouldn't it be a great thing if the anti-gays (AGs) of the world expended as much legislation, discrimination and litigation against heterosexual predators who abuse women and children in every corner of the world every minute of every day. If Putin, Museveni and the Pope gave as much energy to indicting rapists, misogynists, and pedophiles they might be doing something really worthwhile and spending their rabitity in the right place. It might even get them some credence and kudos on the international stage.

Why in the world would an elected political body en masse deliberately infuriate its constituents by answering questions on national TV like the Smart Alec bullying the teacher in junior high? Issuing a page of scripted rhetoric at a time with unrelated (he will say it was) drivel about some heroics--usually the greatest in history--to avoid the answer that Canadians will not like constitutes dissing voters out of hand. As if we are not worthy of an answer, not capable of understanding, patronized with hooey in the manner that some men dis women seems to me the first step in losing an election, if enough people watched the interview. One would like to hope!

How did we get ourselves into this mess? How are we going to get ourselves out of it?
